At the centre of the composition 'Source of Life' lies a large oval form that unites a system of symbols and geometric elements. It incorporates an S-shaped symbol, an infinity motif, a cross-shaped structure, and circular forms. The central core is surrounded by repeating spiral elements, while wavy lines traverse the upper and lower sections of the canvas, creating continuous vertical movement. Two smaller circular symbols support the rhythm of the main composition.
The construction is grounded in crisp contours, repeating arcs, parallel lines, spirals, and rounded planes. The restrained palette consists of black, white, brown, and golden ochre tones. Their significance forms part of the artist's concept: brown is associated with the earth and latent life force, black with night, the unknown, and the continuity of existence, white with purity, and gold with the sun, warmth, and harvest.
The work's symbolic system draws upon years of the artist's study of Ukrainian art and folk tradition. The solar symbol signifies life force and nature's rebirth, the infinity symbol represents life itself, while the cross connects the verticality of eternity with the horizontal axis of time, correlating beginning and end, existence and non-existence. The S-shaped symbol embodies eternity and the unity of opposites — warmth and cold, day and night, light and darkness, masculine and feminine principles.
Thus, 'Source of Life' articulates an original vision of the life cycle through the interaction of symbol, colour, and rhythm. Individual symbols unite into a cohesive compositional system where themes of continuity, opposites, and cyclicality unfold without relying on a literal narrative.
