About this painting
The composition focuses on a single iris flower, shown close up and almost frontally. Its petals open in different directions to form a complex, asymmetrical structure, in which the upper light planes are balanced by the broad, downward-facing lower part. This arrangement creates a sense of inner movement, as though the form were caught in the act of unfolding.
The palette is built around a rich yellow, moving from pale lemon shades to deeper golden tones with dark veins. These contrasting lines strengthen the texture of the lower petal and emphasise the natural complexity of the flower. The dark green-blue background forms a restrained plane, allowing the iris’s bright colour to achieve its fullest expression and luminosity.
Light softly models the form, without harsh shadows, emphasising volume and flowing contours. The brushwork is visible yet disciplined: it preserves the clear silhouette and strengthens the painted surface’s material presence. The foliage below is simplified into vertical rhythms that maintain the composition’s balance.
Yellow Iris conveys a concentration of light and energy. Its intimate scale and contrasting tones give the work a strong presence: the flower appears both as a botanical subject and as a symbol of clarity, strength and restrained emotional tension, expressed through colour and form.
